‘Cassation’ fines doctor 500 dinars for stealing antidepressants worth 3.5 dinars

The Court of Cassation has fined an assistant physician 500 dinars for stealing antidepressant medication from a government hospital worth 3.5 dinars.
The doctor was caught on CCTV camera in the act. He was reportedly wearing a mask to hide his identity.
The case came to light after several thefts were reported at the hospital. Following a tip-off from an employee, authorities launched an investigation and detained the suspect, reports Al-Qabas daily.
During questioning, he confessed to stealing the medication on four separate occasions, explaining that he suffers from depression and anxiety and that the drugs are restricted to psychiatric patients only.
The ruling marks the end of a case that highlights growing concerns over access to mental health treatment and security lapses within healthcare facilities.
