Kuwait records decline in mortality rate in 2024; cancer and diabetes among leading causes of death; infant mortality down, but female rate rises

The Central Administration of Statistics (CAS) has reported that Kuwait’s mortality rate fell to 1.5 per 1,000 people in 2024, down from the 1.7–2.6 range recorded between 2020 and 2023. The natural population increase also declined slightly, reaching 6.85 per 1,000 in 2024 compared to 7.16 in 2020.
Infant mortality decreased to 6.20 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2024, down from 6.80 the previous year. However, the rate among female infants rose to 6.52, compared to 6.32 in 2023.
Kuwait recorded 49,063 births in 2024—33,323 to Kuwaiti parents and 15,740 to non-Kuwaitis. While the Kuwaiti birth rate rose by 0.56 percent, non-Kuwaiti births dropped by nearly 10 percent. Ahmadi Governorate ranked first for Kuwaiti births (7,714), while Hawalli topped the list for non-Kuwaiti births (4,604).
