Canadian airline calls ‘Time Out’, cancels all Dubai flights until further notice

A major national airline has cancelled hundreds of international flights, including those to and from Dubai International Airport.

For those who have made travel plans word is out that Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge flights between Toronto and Dubai remain suspended until further notice.

The disruption comes as a result of the airline’s cabin crew have gone on strike as a result of which a significant number of flights have been affected as outbound flights from Canada remain grounded.

However, the Emirates’ flights to Toronto and Montréal continue as scheduled from Dubai’s Terminal 3.

Flight information on the DXB website states that Air Canada flights scheduled for later this week are due to operate.

Nonetheless, the cabin crew apparently are in no mood since the strike is in ‘ongoing’ mode. The airline has asked passengers to check their bookings before going to the airport.

Air Canada and the union representing 10,000 flight attendants resumed negotiations late Monday in Toronto, the first direct talks since the strike began over the weekend.

The dispute has disrupted the peak summer travel season, affecting about 130,000 passengers daily, according to Reuters.

Meanwhile, despite rulings by the Canada Industrial Relations Board declaring the strike illegal and ordering attendants back to work, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has refused, insisting that a settlement must be reached at the bargaining table.

Union president Mark Hancock said members would not return to work until a fair deal is reached, even at the risk of fines or jail. Air Canada has canceled more than 2,500 flights since last Thursday, estimating that around half a million travelers could be affected.

Prime Minister Mark Carney urged both sides to resolve the dispute quickly, stressing the need for fair compensation while noting the widespread disruption. Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau said he remains hopeful for a rapid settlement.
