CAN launches ‘Pink Lifebuoy’ campaign to raise breast cancer awareness

The National Cancer Awareness Campaign (CAN) has launched its “Pink Lifebuoy” breast cancer awareness initiative under the patronage of Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila, in cooperation with Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiaries.

The campaign will run throughout October, focusing on spreading health awareness and encouraging early detection.

At the launch ceremony, CAN Chairman Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh highlighted that awareness and education remain the strongest tools for prevention and recovery, stressing the importance of monthly self-examinations and early screening, reports Al-Rai daily.

He noted that breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women in Kuwait, while recovery rates in the country have risen to 44 percent this year, reflecting the impact of awareness and early detection policies.

Campaign official Dr. Hessa Al-Shaheen said CAN’s programs have had a tangible impact over the past 14 years, with women increasingly engaging in self-examination training and mammograms.

She added that this year’s activities include workshops at companies, universities, and the Public Authority for Applied Education, as well as exhibitions in malls, health centers, and hospitals.

Awareness lectures are also being held in schools, training more than 172,000 female students in self-examination.

Dr. Al-Shaheen emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between health, social, educational, and media institutions to support early screening, provide psychological support for patients, and promote healthy lifestyles to prevent cancer.
