Cabinet assigns Interior Minister responsibility for enforcement of anti-terrorism law

Kuwait’s Cabinet has issued a decision assigning the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, as the minister responsible for implementing the country’s Anti-Terrorism Law.

The decision has been published in the Official Gazette Kuwait Alyawm under Resolution No. 718 of 2026.

According to the key provisions of the resolution:

  • The Interior Minister will be the competent authority overseeing Law No. 47 of 2026 on combating terrorism crimes.
  • The Prime Minister and all ministers are required to implement the decision within their respective jurisdictions.
  • The resolution takes effect immediately upon issuance and officially published.

The move formalizes ministerial responsibility for enforcing Kuwait’s anti-terrorism legislation, centralizing oversight under the Ministry of Interior. It is intended to strengthen coordination in the implementation of national security and counterterrorism measures, Al-Anba reports.

The decision comes as Kuwait continues to update and reinforce its legal and institutional framework for addressing security threats and ensuring compliance with modern counterterrorism standards.
