Belgian Ambassador Visits The Times Kuwait, Explores Stronger Media and Cultural Cooperation

H.E. Christian Dooms, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Kuwait, paid a courtesy visit to the offices of The Times Kuwait, where he held cordial discussions with Editor-in-Chief Tareq Yousef Al-Shumaimry and Executive Managing Editor Reaven D’Souza on a range of issues of mutual interest, including bilateral relations, media cooperation, cultural exchange and the evolving global landscape.

The visit reflected the growing importance of constructive engagement between diplomatic missions and the media in fostering greater understanding between nations and promoting informed public discourse.

Welcoming Ambassador Christian Dooms, Al-Shumaimry highlighted The Times Kuwait’s commitment to responsible, balanced and credible journalism, noting the publication’s role over the years in strengthening Kuwait’s multicultural fabric by serving as a bridge between Kuwait and the international community. He emphasized that the newspaper has consistently sought to showcase Kuwait’s development, diplomatic outreach, economic progress and vibrant cultural diversity while giving voice to the country’s large expatriate community.

D’Souza provided an overview of the newspaper’s journey and its evolution into one of Kuwait’s leading English-language publications. He spoke about the publication’s growing digital presence and its efforts to embrace new media platforms while maintaining the highest standards of journalistic integrity. He also highlighted The Times Kuwait’s role in promoting dialogue, cross-cultural understanding and international cooperation through its extensive coverage of diplomatic, business, cultural and community affairs.

Ambassador Dooms commended The Times Kuwait for its professionalism and its contribution to enhancing public understanding of issues affecting Kuwait and the wider region. He noted that an independent and responsible media plays an essential role in building informed societies and strengthening international friendships.

The discussions also explored the longstanding and friendly relations between Belgium and Kuwait, with both sides acknowledging the steady growth in cooperation across political, economic, commercial and cultural spheres.
