Behind bars, on stage: Inmates bring to light reform through theater
Ministry of Interior showcases success of rehabilitation with inmate-led play; inmates deliver powerful awareness performance on the theme -- crime, creativity and consequences.

The General Administration of Correctional Institutions hosted a thought-provoking awareness play on Monday, December 29, 2025, written, directed, and performed by inmates themselves.
The event, held under the patronage of Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior,
And attended by Major General Abdulwahab Al-Wahib, Undersecretary of the Ministry, and other senior officials, offered a rare glimpse into life inside correctional institutions while promoting the Ministry’s commitment to rehabilitation and reform, reports Al-Rai daily.
The play’s narrative focused on the consequences of criminal behavior. The aim was to cultivate awareness among both inmates and the wider community.
Through live performance, the inmates illustrated the daily realities of correctional facilities, highlighting ongoing programs designed to nurture skills, encourage volunteering, and ultimately reintegrate inmates as productive members of society.
Speaking at the event, Sheikh Fahd emphasized that initiatives like these are crucial to the reform process, fostering societal values and reinforcing the Ministry’s dual mandate of maintaining security while supporting rehabilitation, praising the exceptional performances of the inmates, noting the meaningful messages conveyed through their creative efforts.
The General Administration of Correctional Institutions continues to develop innovative programs that balance security with personal development, underlining a progressive vision where inmates are prepared not only to serve their sentences but to return to society with renewed purpose and positive engagement.
