Bangladesh Embassy and UN-Habitat hold blood donation drive in Kuwait

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kuwait, in cooperation with UN-Habitat, organized a blood donation campaign on December 19, 2025, with the participation of members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community living in Kuwait.
The initiative was held at the Kuwait Central Blood Bank in Jabriya as part of celebrations marking the 54th anniversary of Bangladesh’s Victory Day and the Bangladesh Youth Festival 2025.
The campaign was jointly inaugurated by H.E. Major General Syed Tareq Hussain, OSP, AWC, PSC, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Kuwait, and Dr. Amira Al-Hassan, Head of UN-Habitat in Kuwait.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the ambassadors of Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, in addition to Bangladeshi expatriate donors, representatives of local print and electronic media, and officials from the Bangladesh Embassy.
In his welcome address, Ambassador Syed Tareq Hussain recalled that December 16, 1971, marked the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent nation through the sacrifices of its martyrs and the courage of its freedom fighters.
He said Victory Day represents not only a remembrance of the nation’s history, but also a reaffirmation of enduring values such as freedom, human dignity, solidarity and compassion. He noted that the blood donation campaign embodies these values in a practical and humanitarian way.
The ambassador added that the initiative also forms part of the Bangladesh Youth Festival 2025, with strong participation from young Bangladeshi expatriates in Kuwait.
He emphasized that youth represent the driving force of Bangladesh’s future at home and abroad, and said the festival aims to encourage young expatriates to engage in social, cultural and sporting activities that strengthen community bonds.
Ambassador Syed Tareq Hussain expressed his appreciation to UN-Habitat and Dr. Amira Al-Hassan for their cooperation, and conveyed his sincere thanks to the Government of the State of Kuwait and the Kuwait Central Blood Bank for their support and facilitation of the campaign.
In her remarks, Dr. Amira Al-Hassan said that UN-Habitat strongly supports humanitarian and community-based initiatives that promote social cohesion and a culture of civic engagement.
She explained that the campaign aligns with UN-Habitat’s mandate to build resilient and sustainable cities under the Global Initiative for Resilient Cities, highlighting the role such activities play in strengthening communities’ ability to address health and social challenges.
She also thanked the Embassy of Bangladesh and the Bangladeshi community in Kuwait for their noble contribution.
The blood donation program was launched with the first donation made by the Ambassador of Cambodia, and witnessed strong participation throughout the day, with around 300 Bangladeshi expatriates donating blood.
