‘Authority for People with Disabilities’ sets 14-day limit to issue disability classification medical reports

Sources in the Public Authority for the Disabled revealed to Al-Anba that the issuance of the final classification report for disability cases issued by the specialized medical committees, takes about 10 to 14 working days.

The Authority explained that if the concerned person does not receive the report within the specified period, then that person must visit the medical records department to verify; signing the committee’s declaration – validity of the phone number – validity of the civil ID.

Apart from this, the sources also indicated that the work of some committees takes longer to classify the disability, in order to verify the stability of the case and its response to treatment, and the severity of its impact on daily life, in addition to completing medical reports.

The sources also confirmed that with regards to accident cases, the committees rely on assessing the extent of the injury’s impact on basic functional ability, such as; walking and movement, and if the injury significantly impedes these activities, the case is classified as a disability, and this is confirmed through functional assessments of the patient.

In addition, if the case is volatile and does not stabilize, such as cases that deteriorate or improve over time, the committee waits until the stability of the case is assessed.

The Authority categorically stated emphasizing the fact that delaying the decision in these cases is necessary to avoid inaccurate classification of the disability.
