ASSP Kuwait Chapter hosts HSE excellence awards for Gulf region

The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) – Kuwait Chapter proudly hosts the annual ASSP Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) HSE Excellence Awards. This prestigious event recognizes private sector companies for their exceptional leadership, commitment, and innovation in advancing health, safety, and environment (HSE) standards across the Gulf region.
By showcasing these achievements, the awards inspire others to pursue excellence, promoting a culture of safety and sustainability throughout the region.
The awards ceremony for the ASSP GCC HSE Excellence Awards 2024 was held in collaboration with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) at the KOC Tent in Ahmadi, Kuwait. The event was patronized by Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and its subsidiaries, endorsed by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) and the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC), and supported by international regulatory agencies such as the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF), with the Gulf Downstream Association (GDA) serving as the knowledge partner.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of several distinguished personalities, including Naser Al-Habab, Manager of HSSE at Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC); Yousef Al-Qallaf, Team Leader HSE North Kuwait, Kuwait Oil Company (KOC); Jumah Basheer, Team Leader Drilling 5 (N&WK), KOC; Zainab Hussain, Team Leader E&SC, KOC; Abdulrahman Al Hajri, Team Leader HSE Marine, KOC; Mohammed Al Rashidi, Team Leader Project Management 33, KOC; Abdulaziz SadeqMohammad Sadeq, Team Leader HSE Mina Ahmadi, Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC); Yousef Al Shammari, Senior Drilling Engineer, KOC; and Elyas, Past Section Head of Operations, MAA Refinery, KNPC.
Additionally, numerous dignitaries from oil sector companies across the GCC, along with other distinguished guests, attended the event.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Engr. Fadhel Al Ali, Chairman of the ASSP Kuwait Chapter; Engr. Faris Al Mansouri, Director of the ASSP GCC HSE Excellence Awards; Engr. Ahmad Eissa Al-Shatti, Team Leader at KOC and Deputy Director of the ASSP GCC HSE Excellence Awards; and Engr. Bader Mubarak Al-Hadhrami, President of the ASSP Kuwait Chapter for 2024–2025.
Engr. Fadhel Al Ali warmly welcomed attendees and extended heartfelt appreciation to KPC management for their patronage, acknowledging the invaluable support of KPC, KOC, KNPC, and KIPIC management. He expressed gratitude for the remarkable participation of private companies from Kuwait and across the GCC region.
The chairman emphasized the event’s pivotal role in transforming organizational attitudes toward HSE commitment, fostering a culture of excellence and sustainability in the region. In his concluding remarks, he commended the dedication and tireless efforts of the ASSP Kuwait Chapter’s volunteer team and lauded the exceptional leadership of Engr. Faris Al Mansouri and Engr. Ahmad Al-Shatti for making the event a resounding success.
Engr. Faris Al Mansouri, Director of the ASSP GCC HSE Excellence Awards 2024, delivered a heartfelt welcome address, expressing his gratitude to all participating companies. He highlighted the importance of embedding HSE culture as a core value within the industry, underscoring that safety must always remain a top priority. He stressed the need for strong organizational support to empower employees in promoting a robust HSE culture.
Engr. Faris Al Mansouri also emphasized the continual growth in participation from across the Middle East since the awards’ inception in 2009, reflecting the region’s increasing commitment to HSE excellence.
In his closing remarks, he extended his appreciation to KPC and its subsidiaries for their unwavering patronage, commended the Evaluation Committee for upholding high standards, and acknowledged the dedication of all members involved in organizing the awards program.
Engr. Ahmad Al-Shatti, Deputy Director of the ASSP GCC HSE Excellence Awards 2024, provided an insightful overview of the GCC Awards Program, accompanied by the unveiling of an engaging video capsule. He congratulated and extended his best wishes to all the winning companies, commending their commitment to creating safe and healthy work environments, upholding high industrial standards, and achieving exceptional performance.
Engr. Al-Shatti expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organizing team, core committee members, evaluation committee members, and chapter administrative officers for their dedication and hard work in ensuring the event’s success. He also encouraged companies to actively participate in the ASSP GCC Awards Program 2024, fostering a continuous journey toward HSE excellence.

Engr. Al-Hadhrami also encouraged executives from various companies and organizations to actively participate in the event and seize the opportunity to gain recognition within the HSSE fraternity, fostering collaboration and progress in the field.
A special address was delivered by representatives of the supporting organizations, the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) and the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC). Mrs. Kavita Prabhu, representing BCSP, delivered an inspiring speech, while BCSP President M. Ashok Garlapati graced the event with his presence. Mr. Hisham Zebian, representing IADC, spoke about the awards program and highlighted IADC’s initiatives in advancing safety standards.
Following the opening ceremony, Engr. Fadhel Al Ali, Engr. Faris Al Mansouri, and Mr. Bader Al Bader officially commenced the awards program. Together, they distributed awards to the successful companies, recognizing their achievements in various categories, including Platinum, Gold, Gold Medal (awarded to companies achieving the Gold award for five consecutive years), Silver, and Merit awards.
A total of 51 companies from GCC countries participated, winning 81 awards across the following categories:
- HSE Excellence.
- Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program.
- Environment Excellence.
- Best HSE Initiative.
- Best Management of Driving Safety.
- Best Risk Management.
All submissions were meticulously evaluated by a professional team of adjudicators to ensure fairness and accuracy in the selection process.
Following the awards ceremony, Eng. Fadhel Al Ali, Chairman of the ASSP Kuwait Chapter; Eng. Faris Al Mansouri, Director; and Eng. Ahmad Al-Shatti, Deputy Director, extended their appreciation to the EC Core Committee, the ASSP GCC HSE Excellence Awards organizing committee members, and the administrative staff. Each was honored with an ASSP-branded memento as a token of gratitude for their dedication and contributions to the event’s success.
The event’s closing ceremony was conducted by Mr. Mohammad Yusuff, Vice President of the ASSP Kuwait Chapter for 2024–2025.
In his vote of thanks, he expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response from companies in Kuwait and across the GCC. He acknowledged the contributions of all ASSP volunteers, as well as the supporting and endorsing organizations, for their efforts in making the program a resounding success.
Engr. Noor Adel Al-Sadi and Engr. Heba Al gracefully facilitated the awards ceremony. Special thanks were extended to the exhibitors, including Raja Trading Company, Safety & Fire, Fares & Dabbous, Dalian International, ISN Software, Solas Marine Services Group, Bright International Co., and Mahatta Trading Co., for their valuable participation.
Mr. Yusuff also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the volunteers who dedicated their personal time to ensure the event’s success. He commended the event organizing team from VCONEX, led by Mr. Mohammad Riaz, for their flawless execution and production of the program.
