Arab dignitaries arrive in Baghdad for 34th Arab Summit

Arab and international leaders have begun arriving in Baghdad to attend the 34th Arab Summit, joining Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in a landmark gathering hosted by Iraq for the first time since 2012.

Among the prominent arrivals are Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, according to news agencies.

The United Arab Emirates is represented by Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, while Kuwait, Morocco, Algeria, Syria, the Union of the Comoros, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain have all sent their foreign ministers: Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya (Kuwait), Nasser Bourita (Morocco), Ahmed Attaf (Algeria), Asaad Al-Shibani (Syria), Mbaye Mohamed (Comoros), Mahmoud Ali Youssouf (Djibouti), Faisal bin Farhan (Saudi Arabia), and Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani (Bahrain).

International and regional organizations are also present, including United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, and Organization of Islamic Cooperation Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha.

Additional high-level representatives include Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, Omani Deputy Prime Minister Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Sudanese Assistant Commander-in-Chief Ibrahim Jaber, Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir, and Djibouti Government Spokesperson Abdul Kader Hussein Omar.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez also arrived as a notable international guest.

Held under tight security, the summit is a significant diplomatic event for Iraq, signaling its renewed role as a regional host. More delegations are expected to arrive throughout the morning ahead of the official opening session.
