Apocalyptic dust storm cripples Phoenix amid darkness, chaos, and flood warnings

Meteorologists predict Phoenix will be battered by further thunderstorms through Thursday, extending the city’s ordeal before skies clear at week’s end.

A monstrous dust storm swallowed the US city of Phoenix on Monday, plunging it into an eerie darkness that paralyzed daily life, crippled infrastructure, and left destruction in its wake.

The storm, part of the deadly monsoon season sweeping across the American Southwest, knocked out power to thousands, grounded flights, and turned highways into death traps as visibility vanished.

As the suffocating wall of dust rolled in, lightning and torrential rain followed, tearing apart rooftops —including part of Phoenix Airport — while flash floods forced authorities into emergency mode.

Over 7,200 homes lost electricity, traffic lights went dead, and fallen trees blocked major intersections, leaving roads in chaos. Highways I-10 and I-17 became impassable, one shrouded in dust, the other drowning in floodwater.

The storm, which the National Weather Service said affected nearly two million people, brought Phoenix to a standstill. Authorities warned drivers to abandon movement, cut off their lights, and wait out the disaster to avoid catastrophic collisions.

“This monsoon dust is no joke… please stay safe,” officials warned online, as images of the colossal dust wall swallowing airplanes spread like a scene from the apocalypse.

Meteorologists now predict Phoenix will be battered by further thunderstorms through Thursday, extending the city’s ordeal before skies clear at week’s end.
