America intends to play ‘major role’ in shaping Iranian political landscape after the war: US President

US President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States intends to play a “major role” in shaping the post-war Iranian political landscape by selecting a “new leadership” that will work to rebuild the country “without nuclear weapons.”

This came in an interview Trump gave to the American newspaper Politico, in which he said he expects to have “a major influence on the future political leadership in Iran, otherwise there will be no settlement because we won’t have to fight this battle again.”

In response to a question about the potential successor to the position of Supreme Leader in Iran after the death of Ali Khamenei, the US president said, “They are now looking at the son (Mojtaba Khamenei),” adding that “the reason the father (Ali Khamenei) didn’t give him the position was because of his incompetence.”

Trump affirmed that the United States will work with the Iranians to help them make the right decision because he (Trump) wants to avoid the emergence of an Iranian leader “who will cause this to happen again in ten years.”

Regarding the progress of US military operations against Iran, Trump said, “We are eliminating a major threat to the United States, and we are doing it in a way that has never been done before.”

He added, “We are handling this with extreme precision… We have unlimited supplies of weapons.”

He emphasized that the Iranians “have no navy, no air force, and not even the ability to monitor airspace,” asserting, “Everything is destroyed… Their radars are completely destroyed. Their army is exhausted.”
