Bulgarian Ambassador to Kuwait, Dimitar Dimitrov, has reaffirmed the depth of cultural ties and multifaceted cooperation between Bulgaria and Kuwait, highlighting a rich history of joint cultural initiatives and active participation in international forums.
His remarks came during the celebration of the Day of Bulgarian Alphabet, Enlightenment, and Culture, held as part of the “Europe Month in Kuwait” festivities. The event was attended by Sheikha Dr. Al-Anoud Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, Assistant Secretary-General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), European Union Ambassador to Kuwait Anne Koistinen, several EU ambassadors, and members of the Bulgarian community in Kuwait.
Ambassador Dimitrov stressed the importance of exploring new opportunities for collaboration in the study and preservation of cultural heritage, the exchange of museum exhibitions, and the development of partnerships in education and scientific research. “We must keep cooperation in these areas a priority, drawing on six decades of distinguished diplomatic relations,” he said.
He also praised the role of Kuwait University’s Language Center, particularly its efforts in teaching Arabic to Bulgarian specialists, calling it a successful model of cultural diplomacy.
Ambassador Dimitrov commended Kuwait’s prominent role in the Arab and international cultural scenes and its openness to diverse global cultures. “Kuwait’s selection as the Capital of Arab Culture and Media is a testament to its leadership and continued efforts to promote cultural exchange,” he noted.
He expressed deep appreciation for the support provided by the Ministry of Information and Culture, and the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters in organizing rich and diverse cultural programs that foster intercultural dialogue. These efforts, he said, allow Kuwaiti society to engage with the literary, artistic, and musical treasures of world cultures.
In his closing remarks, Dimitrov thanked the Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyyah for its longstanding and fruitful cooperation, which has led to a series of impactful concerts by Bulgarian artists in Kuwait. He reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening cultural diplomacy with Kuwait, emphasizing the vital role of culture in building bridges between nations.
On the significance of the occasion, the ambassador noted that the Day of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Enlightenment, and Culture is one of the country’s most cherished national holidays. “Our alphabet, literature, and cultural traditions have enabled the Bulgarian people to preserve their national identity through centuries of historical transformation across Europe,” he concluded.
