Alimony complaint opens ‘Pandora’s Box’ of fake identities

Two generational citizenship forgery scandal that began with marriage dispute ended in nationality withdrawal

A case that started as a simple maintenance (alimony) complaint by a divorced Gulf woman led authorities to uncover a major nationality forgery involving an entire family across two generations.

According to informed sources, the woman contacted the Nationality Investigation Department through a hotline. She explained that she had been married to a man she believed held both Kuwaiti and Gulf nationalities. After their marriage ended in divorce, disputes began over alimony payments.

The ex-husband allegedly avoided paying financial support by relying on his Kuwaiti citizenship and documents. Since he had left her country, she could not legally force him to pay alimony there, reports Al-Rai daily.

During investigations, authorities discovered that the man was not a dual national as previously believed. Instead, his Kuwaiti citizenship itself had been obtained through forgery — a fraud that began with his late father and extended to the family name, father, and grandfather records.

Although the father had died, his DNA sample was already stored at the Criminal Evidences Department from an earlier case.

Investigators summoned the men listed as his brothers under the Kuwaiti family records and collected DNA samples from four of them. Tests confirmed those men were genuine brothers. However, DNA comparison proved that the ex-husband’s father was not related to them at all, confirming that the nationality records had been falsified.

Strong evidence against the family

The authorities relied on multiple pieces of evidence, including:

  • DNA test results
  • Official Gulf documents provided by the ex-wife
  • Proof that both the ex-husband and his late father held genuine Gulf nationality documents
  • Verification of their real relatives in their original country

The investigation file included 16 individuals connected to the forged nationality case. The Supreme Nationality Committee decided to withdraw Kuwaiti citizenship from all of them.

The divorced man remains in custody while legal procedures continue against him.
