‘Al-Rahaj Al-Muzni’ clouds blanket Kuwait skies: Issa Ramadan

Dark, rain-bearing clouds signal unstable weather across the nation

Meteorologist Issa Ramadan has confirmed that the dark clouds currently visible across Kuwait’s skies are known as “Al-Rahaj Al-Muzni”, a traditional term used to describe dense, rain-laden cloud formations.

Speaking to Al-Rai, Ramadan explained that these clouds are a mixture of cumulonimbus clouds capable of producing rain, often forming close to the Earth’s surface — sometimes just a few hundred meters above ground — before rising to high altitudes.

He noted that Al-Rahaj Al-Muzni clouds appear in dark grey shades and are frequently associated with thunderstorms, lightning, and thunder, depending on atmospheric conditions.

Ramadan clarified that such clouds typically develop along advancing air fronts and have formed during similar weather patterns in the past.
