Al-Mutlaa City at risk of flooding amid rainy season concerns

Rocky soil and floodplains heighten flood risks; inadequate drainage systems could lead to urban flooding; call for safe and sustainable rubble management

Environmental activists have warned that the rubble and construction waste surrounding Al-Mutla’a City can trap rainwater, threatening homes and infrastructure.

Activist Saad Al-Hayyan noted that the city’s rocky soil prevents water absorption, while surrounding swamps and floodplains could worsen flooding if rainfall exceeds expected levels.

Barak Al-Hindal cautioned that insufficient rainwater drainage networks may leave the city vulnerable to flooding if heavy rains strike.

Dr. Fanis Al-Ajmi acknowledged Al-Mutlaa as a positive sign of urban growth but urged authorities to handle construction waste properly, stressing that mismanagement could harm both residents and the environment.
