Al-Mashaan hosts Etihad Rail delegation to discuss future integration

In a step toward enhancing regional integration and advancing transportation infrastructure, Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan welcomed a high-level delegation from the Emirati company Etihad Rail, led by CEO Eng. Shadi Malak, during an official visit to Kuwait at the Ministry’s invitation.

The visit comes within the framework of joint Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) cooperation and knowledge exchange in the field of transportation infrastructure. The discussions focused on deepening collaboration in the railway sector and leveraging successful regional models, reports Al-Anba daily.

Dr. Al-Mashaan emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to adopting and learning from pioneering experiences in railway development. She lauded the United Arab Emirates’ accomplishments, particularly the establishment of Hafeet Rail — a joint venture between the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman — which she described as a model example of Gulf integration in infrastructure.

A key highlight of the meeting was a technical presentation outlining Kuwait’s vision for future railway projects. Al-Mashaan showcased the Ministry’s strategic plan to establish a sustainable national railway network. The plan aligns with best regional practices and integrates environmental and economic considerations, reinforcing Kuwait’s ambition to achieve long-term sustainable development.

“This cooperation reflects Kuwait’s commitment to advancing Gulf integration and strengthening both economic and geographic connectivity among GCC countries,” Al-Mashaan stated. She stressed the importance of ongoing technical coordination to ensure the implementation of high-quality infrastructure projects that address regional development priorities.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works, Eid Al-Rashidi, reiterated the Ministry’s focus on harnessing successful Gulf experiences in the early planning stages. “Such collaboration is essential to creating a cohesive and sustainable railway network that supports regional connectivity and shared development goals,” he said.

The visit marks a significant step in aligning Kuwait’s transportation strategy with broader GCC infrastructure initiatives, fostering unity, and positioning the Gulf region for stronger economic and logistical integration.
