Al-Bunyan wins first place for artistic Kuwait Towers photograph at Siena Awards 2026

Kuwaiti photographer Abdullah Al-Bunyan won first place in the Siena Awards 2026, held in Italy, in the Urban Drone Photography category for his artistic photograph of the Kuwait Towers. The winners were announced on Saturday amidst wide international participation in the competition, which is considered one of the most prestigious international photography competitions, attracting nearly half a million entries from more than 150 countries worldwide.

In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Bunyan affirmed that winning first place in this global competition with his photograph of the Kuwait Towers is a source of pride for him, given the towers’ national symbolism and prominent place in Kuwait’s visual identity. He added that his participation was not limited to the first-place winning photograph, as two other photographs of his received commendations from the competition’s jury.

This achievement reflects the distinguished presence of Kuwaiti photographers at international art events and their ability to compete in global competitions, showcasing Kuwaiti landmarks through innovative artistic and creative visions. The competition is held annually in Siena, Italy, as part of the Siena Photography Festival. It attracts participants from professional and amateur photographers worldwide, and the celebrations and photo exhibitions take place at the Teatro dei Rinnovati and other venues in the historic city of Siena.

Winners receive the Pangea Crystal statuette, in addition to other prizes. The competition includes various categories such as travel and adventure, portraits and personalities, nature and wildlife, underwater life, sports, documentary photography, and street photography, as well as categories for short documentaries and photo essays. Winning works are displayed in special exhibitions in the city and published in the renowned annual book, “Beyond the Lens.”
