Al-Budaiwi ‘tells’ Munich Security Conference, GCC a pillar of regional and global stability

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Al-Budaiwi, affirmed on Friday that the Council has emerged as a key partner in promoting regional and international stability through unity, strategic coordination and strengthened global partnerships.

In a statement, the GCC General Secretariat said Al-Budaiwi delivered his remarks during a panel discussion titled “A Vision for the New Middle East: The Future of Regional Integration” held as part of the 62nd edition of the Munich Security Conference.

Al-Budaiwi stressed that the GCC continues to play a pivotal role in reinforcing security and stability across the region through an approach grounded in dialogue, diplomacy and constructive international cooperation, describing the Council as a successful model for transforming regional challenges into opportunities for shared prosperity, reports Al-Rai daily.

He emphasized that GCC leaders firmly believe the security and stability of member states form the foundation for broader regional security, particularly amid complex political, economic and security challenges facing the Middle East.

According to Al-Budaiwi, addressing these challenges requires a collective vision built on respect for national sovereignty, adherence to international law and the pursuit of peaceful solutions to conflicts.

He noted that the GCC has adopted a comprehensive crisis-management strategy combining political mediation, economic collaboration and expanded international partnerships, with cooperation frameworks established with more than 23 countries and eight international organizations.

The Secretary-General reiterated that the Palestinian issue remains central to GCC priorities, underscoring the need for a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also highlighted the importance of addressing concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme, stressing that GCC countries must be included in related negotiations to safeguard regional security and support efforts toward a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction.

Al-Budaiwi further pointed to the Gulf states’ humanitarian contributions, noting that GCC countries collectively provided nearly 14 billion US dollars in humanitarian aid between 2020 and 2025, reflecting their commitment to global stability and development.

The conference opened with the participation of senior international leaders, including Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, alongside heads of state, foreign and defence ministers, and representatives of civil society organizations from around the world.
