Al-Abduljader proposal seeks to transform roundabouts into cultural landmarks

Municipal Council member Fahad Al-Abduljader has submitted a proposal to establish a unified national code for the design and implementation of roundabouts across Kuwait. In a draft addressed to Municipal Council Chairman Abdullah Al-Mahri, Al-Abduljader emphasized that the initiative aims to elevate the quality of urban life and reinforce Kuwait’s national identity in public places.

Al-Abduljader criticized the current state of roundabouts in the country, citing poor planning, inconsistent construction standards, and a general absence of cultural representation. He proposed that roundabouts should not be seen merely as traffic control elements but as architectural features reflecting Kuwaiti heritage and cultural values, according to Al-Jarida daily.

The proposal calls for the creation of an independent national committee, composed of architects, environmental experts, and technical professionals, to oversee the design and execution of roundabouts. This committee would operate under the supervision of the Kuwait Municipality and the Municipal Council and serve as the sole authority for approving designs and projects.

The new code would promote sustainability, innovation, and the use of local materials while ensuring every stage—from planning to implementation—follows clear and consistent guidelines.
