Air Canada announced today that it will gradually begin resuming flight operations after reaching a tentative agreement with its flight attendants’ union, bringing an end to a strike that had disrupted travel since Saturday.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which represents Air Canada’s flight attendants, confirmed the development in a statement, declaring: “The strike has ended.”
The union described the deal as a “mediated settlement” that addresses one of the most contentious issues — ensuring that flight attendants are paid for work performed while planes are on the ground, dw.com reports.
The strike, launched over pay disputes and unpaid working hours, had led to significant travel disruptions across the country. With the agreement in place, the union instructed its members to fully cooperate with the resumption of normal operations.
Air Canada said flight schedules would be restored in stages, cautioning passengers to check for updates as services ramp back up.
