Active COVID-19 cases in India rise above 2,700, health authority urges vigilance

Most new cases are mild, and there is no cause for public alarm – Indian government

The number of active COVID-19 cases in India has risen to 2,710, according to the latest data released by India’s Union Health Ministry. Of these, 1,170 patients have recovered and been discharged. Kerala continues to report the highest number of active cases with 1,147, while some states, such as Bihar, are still finalizing their daily updates.

In a health advisory, the government urged the public not to use antibiotics unless there is clear evidence of bacterial infection, and to seek immediate medical attention if oxygen levels fall to 93% or below, or if difficulty in breathing is experienced, according to news agencies.

Union Minister of State for Health and AYUSH (Independent Charge), Prataprao Jadhav, assured the public that the Centre is fully prepared to handle any potential surge. “Our Central Health Department and the AYUSH Ministry are closely monitoring the situation across all states. We’ve coordinated with health secretaries and ministers to ensure preparedness,” he told the media.

Maharashtra reported 84 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total number of cases in 2025 to 681. The state currently has 467 active cases, with Mumbai accounting for 32 new infections, the highest in the state. Health authorities have stressed that most new cases are mild, and there is no cause for public alarm.

So far in 2025, 10,324 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Maharashtra, with 681 positive results. Authorities reaffirmed that testing and treatment infrastructure is sufficient and urged the public to stay calm and follow health protocols.
