Abdullah Al-Salem University expands scholarships for mission assistants
The Abdullah Al-Salem University has announced the opening of applications for the position of mission assistant for the academic years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.
The application period will end on March 15 while at the same time welcoming candidates from various specializations across the university’s faculties, reports Al-Qabas daily.
In an unprecedented move, academic sources revealed plans to extend scholarships for mission assistants to include public universities, aiming to recruit professors with modern expertise to keep pace with educational advancements.
This marks the first such announcement by Abdullah Al-Salem University since its establishment in 2019 and the admission of its inaugural student cohort in 2023. The university seeks to bolster its teaching staff through scholarship opportunities, with this announcement representing the initial application phase, to be followed by subsequent announcements in compliance with regulations.
As Kuwait looks to Abdullah Al-Salem University as its second public university, after Kuwait University, there is a growing inclination towards establishing additional public universities. Plans are underway to conduct a study determining the geographical distribution of public universities and their branches, underscoring the role of private higher education in meeting the demand for modern specializations in the labor market.
The establishment of Abdullah Al-Salem University was notably swift and cost-effective, facilitated by the issuance of the Public Universities Law in 2019. Following the partial relocation of Kuwait University to Sabah Al-Salem University City in September 2019, the groundwork was laid for the establishment of Abdullah Al-Salem University using Kuwait University’s former premises, minimizing financial expenditures.
Subsequently, the enactment of executive regulations for the Public Universities Law in 2021 paved the way for the establishment of a new public university. The founding Board of Directors of Abdullah Al-Salem University was formed in September 2021, with the university slated to commence operations and admit its first students in September 2023.
The official opening ceremony of Abdullah Al-Salem University is scheduled for today, at the late Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Theater in Shuwaikh.
