‘Challenge and Provide’ lives up to its vision to support young researchers

Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Al-Nasser inaugurated the Kuwait Science and Engineering Competition’s 10th edition, sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad, under the theme “Challenge and Provide.”

The event spanned two days and featured 83 scientific research projects and engineering designs. Talal Al-Kharafi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Science Club, highlighted the competition’s significance in realizing the club’s vision to support young researchers and innovators, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Al-Kharafi emphasized the Science Club’s commitment to its societal role by assembling a specialized team and a jury of 50 academics to foster a conducive environment for scientific research. The club has been organizing the competition since 2012 and conducts free workshops and courses throughout the year to prepare government school teachers and students for participation.

Private schools also contribute by organizing annual scientific exhibitions, enhancing their students’ scientific research skills. The competition offers a 7-month training program to prepare outstanding Kuwaiti students for participation in various Arab and international forums, including the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in the USA.

Dr. Muhammad Al-Saffar, Head of the Development and Competitive Programs Sector, underscored the competition’s goal of promoting scientific research and innovation among school students. He appreciated the support from partners such as Kuwait University, the Applied Sciences Authority, the Research Institute, and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences in spreading scientific culture.

Dr. Muhammad Al-Failakawi, Chairman of the Competition Jury, noted the participation of 83 scientific research projects and designs across 22 fields, including social and behavioral sciences. Over 160 middle and secondary school students from various Kuwaiti schools presented their projects, which were evaluated by a panel of judges comprising academics and professors.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Al-Nasser greeted the jury members and toured the exhibition pavilions along with Al-Kharafi and other board members.
