The Artist Behind the Edit: Sandra Devraj’s Quiet Rise in British Visual Media
From Trivandrum to London, Sandra Devraj is carving out a distinctive space in visual storytelling, treating post-production not simply as a technical process, but as an art form.
There is a particular kind of artist whose work often goes unnoticed because it exists between the frames in the rhythm of a cut, the subtlety of a colour grade and the precise moment when sound meets image.
London-based visual artist and post-production specialist Sandra Devraj is one such creative. Trained in India and the UK, she has steadily built a career that reflects a distinctive approach to filmmaking: the edit suite, for her, is not merely a technical workspace but a creative studio.
Originally from Trivandrum, Kerala, Sandra is the daughter of Simi KS. Her younger sister, Krishna, is currently pursuing an MBBS at SUT Academy of Medical Sciences in Trivandrum.
Sandra’s interest in visual storytelling developed at an early age and eventually took her to Kochi, where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Visual Media at Amrita School of Arts and Sciences. She later moved to the UK to pursue a Master’s in Filmmaking at the University for the Creative Arts, expanding her understanding of filmmaking and visual communication.
Her professional journey has since taken her into London’s creative industry, where she works as a lead post-production artist at Perspective Pictures.
From editor to storyteller
Sandra’s approach to post-production is also evident in her independent filmmaking projects. Her work on the short film Luvvie, a psychological exploration of isolation, earned selections at six international film festivals. Sandra handled the film’s post-production, shaping its visual language and narrative through the editing process.
Her subsequent project, Cassette, is currently in post-production and has already received recognition, including a Best Script nomination at the Cambridge Short Film Festival. Another significant project in her portfolio is Red Bull x Assassin’s Creed: Leap of Faith, centred on an 18.2-metre freerunning world record.
The project presented a considerable post-production challenge, involving multiple camera angles and high-speed footage. Sandra spent three months developing a modular, multi-timeline editing structure, transforming the raw material into a narrative that went beyond simply documenting a stunt.
The finished film attracted international online attention, including coverage from gaming and entertainment publication IGN.
A creative journey across two continents
Sandra’s journey from Kerala to Kochi and eventually London reflects the increasingly international pathways available to young Indian creatives seeking opportunities in the global media industry.
Her education in visual media in India, followed by advanced filmmaking studies in Britain, gave her exposure to different approaches to storytelling and production. But it is her understanding of post-production as an artistic discipline that increasingly defines her work.
For Sandra, editing is not simply about deciding what stays and what gets removed. It is about finding rhythm, emotion and meaning within existing footage and sometimes discovering a story that was not immediately visible in the raw material.
That philosophy has allowed her to work across independent cinema, branded content and high-profile commercial projects. In an industry where editors often remain behind the scenes, Sandra is increasingly comfortable defining herself differently.
