GTD says traffic flow stable, links congestion to road works

. . . urges drivers not to obstruct roads during accidents; filming or slowing down leads to congestion, secondary accidents

Traffic flow remains normal and stable across Kuwait, except for some entrances to Kuwait City and roads undergoing maintenance and development work, Colonel Othman Mohammed Al-Ghareeb, Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Interior, said.

Speaking on the radio program Good Morning Kuwait, Al-Ghareeb said the Ministry of Interior is continuously monitoring traffic in coordination with relevant authorities to respond to developments and reduce congestion.

He identified ongoing maintenance and development projects as one of the main causes of traffic congestion in some areas, noting that the projects are intended to improve the road network and support the eventual return of traffic to normal.

Al-Ghareeb also warned motorists not to slow down and watch or film road accidents, saying such behavior can obstruct traffic and contribute to secondary accidents. He urged drivers to keep moving, avoid blocking lanes and leave routes clear for patrol vehicles, ambulances and fire trucks.

He also called on drivers to follow temporary traffic signs and instructions, and not cross barriers or enter work zones during maintenance and development projects.

On vehicle safety, Al-Ghareeb urged motorists to keep a fire extinguisher in every vehicle and regularly inspect electrical and mechanical systems. He said a rapid response to a vehicle fire in its early stages can help limit its spread and reduce damage.

He stressed that traffic and safety awareness is a shared responsibility between security authorities and road users, highlighting the role of the Ministry of Interior’s Public Relations Department in promoting preventive and traffic-safety messages.
