Dara secures Bulgaria’s first Eurovision victory amid boycott controversy
Bulgaria claimed its first-ever victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 after singer Dara won the competition in Vienna with her upbeat pop track “Bangaranga.”
Dara emerged victorious over 24 competing acts during Saturday’s grand final, with the song’s energetic choreography and catchy rhythm earning strong support from both national juries and televoters.
Organizers described Dara as one of Bulgaria’s leading contemporary pop stars, known for her distinctive voice, dynamic stage presence, and genre-blending musical style.
Israel finished in second place, followed by Romania, Australia, and Italy to complete the top five rankings. Germany placed 23rd, while the United Kingdom finished last, according to news agencies.
This year’s competition, marking the 70th edition of Eurovision, was overshadowed by political controversy after Spain, Ireland, Netherlands, Iceland, and Slovenia withdrew in protest over Israel’s participation.
