Kuwait reaffirms commitment to strengthening international human rights standing
Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah highlights Kuwait’s ongoing human rights reporting and treaty obligations as Kuwait prepares key human rights reports ahead of Geneva review sessions

Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, has emphasized the commitment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to advance development visions that strengthen Kuwait’s international position in the field of human rights.
She stated that these efforts reflect Kuwait’s voluntary pledges as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2024–2026 term, as well as its intention to run for re-election for the 2027–2029 cycle.
Her remarks were delivered during the third coordination meeting of the National Standing Committee for the Preparation of Reports and Follow-up of Human Rights Recommendations, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting focused on preparing Kuwait’s fourth periodic report under the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, scheduled for submission in Geneva next October.
She noted that Kuwait ratified the covenant under Decree Law No. (11) of 1996 and has already presented three periodic reports before the relevant UN committee, the latest in September 2021, which resulted in recommendations that will guide the preparation of the upcoming report.
She also highlighted Kuwait’s commitment to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, which it joined in 1968 under Law No. (33). Kuwait previously submitted its combined periodic reports (25–26) in December 2019, with the next review scheduled in Geneva during the 118th session.
She explained that Kuwait’s approach is based on institutional self-assessment, policy development, and continuous improvement, ensuring alignment with international human rights obligations and treaty body recommendations.
Overall, she reaffirmed that submitting periodic reports on time and engaging constructively with international human rights mechanisms remains a core national commitment aimed at enhancing Kuwait’s human rights framework and global standing.
