MCI intensifies market crackdown, issues 93 citations across three governorates

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) during recent inspection campaigns has issued 93 citations in Farwaniya, the Capital, and Hawalli governorates, as part of ongoing efforts to enforce regulations and protect consumers.

In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the ministry said the violations ranged from the sale of prohibited and unidentified-source goods to breaches of commercial practices, underscoring its commitment to tighten market control and ensure compliance.

Inspection teams in Farwaniya alone recorded 30 violations following field visits to several shops. Offenses included trading in banned items, selling goods of unknown origin, offering ‘unauthorized’ services and failing to display proper labeling on gold jewelry.

The ministry also issued 10 notices during the campaign, including eight to unlicensed businesses and two warnings to grocery stores for violating regulations governing the sale and distribution of energy drinks.

Meanwhile, the emergency inspection teams in the Capital and Hawalli governorates carried out parallel campaigns, resulting in 63 additional violations. These included failure to specify warranty periods for spare parts, as well as non-compliance with energy drink regulations.
