UAE stands firm with Kuwait against maritime sovereignty infringements
Abu Dhabi backs Kuwait’s rights, calls for diplomacy and respect for international law as “regional solidarity grows
The United Arab Emirates has reaffirmed its full and unwavering solidarity with the State of Kuwait, expressing strong support for all measures Kuwait takes to safeguard its legitimate rights and national interests, and underscoring its backing against any infringement on Kuwait’s sovereignty.
In a statement issued by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and published by the official Emirates News Agency (WAM), the UAE expressed deep concern and condemnation regarding the lists of coordinates and maps submitted by the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations, warning that they could lead to infringements on Kuwait’s rights over its maritime areas and waters, including Fasht Al-Qaid and Fasht Al-Aij.
The UAE emphasized the importance of Iraq taking into consideration the historic and fraternal relations linking the two countries and their peoples, and addressing the matter responsibly and seriously in accordance with international law, reports Al-Rai daily.
The statement also highlighted the need to adhere to the principles and provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, as well as existing bilateral understandings and agreements, while calling for resolving any related issues through constructive dialogue and diplomatic channels in a way that strengthens regional security and stability.
