CAPT reviews infrastructure tender to improve safety on notorious Kabd-Sulaibiya route

The Central Agency for Public Tenders is reviewing a request submitted by the Ministry of Public Works to issue a tender for a major infrastructure project along the Kabd Sulaibiya Road (No. 604).
The proposed project includes the construction, completion, and maintenance of roads and bridges, in addition to stormwater drainage systems, sewage networks, and other supporting infrastructure services. Authorities said the works aim to upgrade the road segment linking the Kabd and Sulaibiya areas and to develop part of the industrial road connection aligned with the 6.5 Ring Road.
According to the agency, the project is expected to enhance the efficiency of the traffic network in this vital corridor, which serves industrial and agricultural zones and carries heavy daily vehicle and truck movement, reports Al-Jarida daily.
The reconsideration of Tender Project No. 272 comes as part of ongoing technical and procedural assessments conducted before issuing the tender, ensuring compliance with regulatory and engineering requirements, particularly those related to integrated infrastructure works and effective stormwater drainage solutions.
Officials noted that the development will help improve traffic flow, strengthen road safety standards, and support broader national plans aimed at upgrading Kuwait’s road network and transport infrastructure.
The Kabd-Sulaibiya route has frequently been referred to in local media as the “road of death” due to the high number of fatal accidents recorded there in recent years, largely attributed to heavy traffic volumes and excessive speeding by some motorists.
