Govt cyber shield reorganized to enhance readiness; protect national data systems

In a move aimed at strengthening Kuwait’s cybersecurity framework and enhancing institutional integration among government entities, the Central Agency for Information Technology has announced the transfer of management of the “Government Cyber Shield” project to the National Cyber Security Center.
The agency stated that the decision comes as part of national efforts to develop digital infrastructure and improve electronic protection systems across government institutions.
According to the agency, the step was implemented through joint coordination between both entities following a series of specialized working-group meetings related to the project, reports Al-Rai daily.
The “Government Cyber Shield” initiative is one of the key programs executed under the framework agreement signed between the Government of Kuwait and Google Cloud, aimed at unifying national cybersecurity efforts and applying internationally recognized best practices and security standards to protect data and digital systems.
Officials explained that transferring project management to the National Cyber Security Center will strengthen cyber governance, clarify institutional roles, and enhance operational coordination among relevant authorities.
The move is expected to raise security readiness levels and enable government entities to keep pace with rapid developments in digital security threats.
The agency also called on government bodies to continue coordinating directly with the specialized team at the National Cyber Security Center through the project’s dedicated communication channels, stressing the importance of completing required procedures and maintaining cooperation to achieve the project’s objectives and enhance the overall efficiency of Kuwait’s cyber protection ecosystem.
