Celebrity couple sentenced in shocking Kuwait Airport drug case

The Criminal Court, presided over by Counselor Ahmed Al-Sadi sentenced a prominent Kuwaiti woman and her Arab husband to two years in prison. They were found guilty of drug use and attempting to smuggle into the country psychotropic substances through the Kuwait International Airport.
The court also imposed a fine of 2,000 dinars. However, the sentence has been suspended for three years, subject to good behavior, and upon payment of 1,000 dinars bail, reports Al-Rai daily.
The accused were acquitted of a separate charge related to failing to disclose $26,705 while entering the country.
During proceedings, the couple denied the accusations, stating that the seized substances were prescribed medication used for neurological treatment and supported by a medical prescription.
They also argued that the money found in their possession represented casino winnings earned abroad.
The case was filed after airport customs inspectors found the drugs during inspection procedures upon the couple’s return to Kuwait, leading to their referral to the competent authorities and subsequent trial.
