At Sahara Golf Club showdown, it was all about precision and power; Golfing excellence on display as Toyo Tournament celebrates 41 years of competition

Mishary Al-Zamanan delivered a standout performance to claim top honors at the Toyo Golf Tournament 2026, held on Friday, February 13, at the Sahara Golf Club, securing the prestigious Liberation Cup in impressive fashion.
The tournament marked the 41st edition of the long-running championship, first launched in 1983 and traditionally staged each February to celebrate Kuwait’s National and Liberation Days.
Widely regarded as one of the most anticipated events on the local golfing calendar, the competition attracts players from across the country, extending participation beyond Sahara Club members to golf enthusiasts of all levels.

Played under the popular Stableford format with a shotgun start, the tournament ensured a fast-paced and competitive round under ideal playing conditions.
Al-Zamanan stole the spotlight with an outstanding score of 38 points, edging out a tightly contested field. Scott Dunning finished close behind as runner-up with 37 points, while Mohan Singh secured third place after posting a strong 36-point round.
Rising star Ali Al-Ansari impressed spectators by capturing the coveted Best Gross award with a remarkable score of 65, further showcasing his power off the tee by winning the Longest Drive (Men’s) title.

Golfing talent clearly runs in the family, as his brother Bader Al-Ansari claimed the Nearest to Pin (Men’s) award, continuing the sporting legacy of their father, Mazen Al-Ansari, a passionate golfer himself. In the women’s category, consistent performer Fadia Emaadi once again demonstrated her class, winning both the Longest Drive and Nearest to Pin awards.
Players enjoyed excellent conditions throughout the day, as Kuwait’s recent cold spell eased, giving way to mild temperatures and a gentle breeze that created near-perfect golfing weather.
The tournament concluded with an afternoon prize-giving ceremony attended by Takanori Murase, General Manager of Toyo Tire Corporation, who traveled from Japan for the occasion.
Kuldeep Lamba, Managing Director of AlMailem Group, expressed appreciation for Toyo’s decades-long support of the tournament, praised the enthusiastic participation of the players, and commended the Sahara Golf Club staff for their professional organization of the event.
