‘Desert Warrior 9’ exercise concludes, showcases strong Kuwaiti-British defense partnership

The joint ‘Desert Warrior 9’ exercise between the Kuwaiti Army and the British military mission held under the patronage of Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Shuraian, Chief of the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army concluded this week in the presence of the British Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Qudsi Rashid.

Ambassador Rashid said the exercise “embodies the depth of the strong defense relations between Kuwait and the United Kingdom” and reflects the high level of professionalism, coordination, and operational discipline among the participating forces.

The training, conducted in an environment simulating real operational challenges, demonstrated the efficiency, discipline, and cooperative spirit of both armies.

He emphasized that such exercises strengthen interoperability, consolidate mutual trust, and reinforce a shared commitment to regional security and stability.

British Defense Attaché Naval Colonel Neil Marriott praised the exercise as a testament to the well-established Kuwaiti-British defense partnership, noting that the closing demonstration during “VIP Day” highlighted the advanced operational competence of both forces.

He stressed that the joint exercises play a pivotal role in developing capabilities, enhancing readiness, and creating a sustainable strategic impact.

The closing ceremony was attended by senior officials including Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Meshaal Al-Sabah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense; Sheikh Dr. Nimer Fahd Al-Malik Al-Sabah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil; Major General Pilot Sabah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Deputy Chief of the General Staff; Major General John Swift, British Assistant Chief of Staff; Colonel Marriott; and other senior military and civil officials, including representatives from the Kuwait Oil Company.

The exercise reinforced the strategic partnership between the two nations, enhancing operational interoperability while showcasing Kuwait’s commitment to maintaining a highly capable and well-trained defense force.
