Five Iranian men sentenced to death in drug smuggling case

The Court of Appeal has sentenced five Iranian men to death after finding them guilty og them of smuggling and trafficking narcotics into the country.
The appellate panel, headed by Judge Dr. Fahd Bu Salib, found the accused guilty of smuggling narcotics into Kuwaiti via Kuwait’s territorial waters solely for the purpose of pumping drugs into the local market, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to court proceedings, the accused have admitted to the charges filed against them and told the court they were also drug addicts.
They stated that they had departed from Iran by boat after loading varying quantities of narcotics, heading toward Kuwait based on prior agreement to deliver the drug shipment to a Kuwaiti contact.
The operation was thwarted when a Coast Guard patrol intercepted the vessel shortly after it entered Kuwaiti waters. The men were ordered to stop, arrested at sea, and the narcotics in their possession were seized.
