A rising number of Indian companies are establishing a presence in Germany, combining service and manufacturing operations, and many hope a potential EU–India free trade agreement will further boost their business prospects.
One example is Techno Design, an Indian-founded fashion design firm based in Düsseldorf. The company creates digital clothing designs using 3D visualization for major German and US brands, while production occurs across India, China, and Bangladesh.
CEO Rajive Ranjan sees significant potential in a future free trade deal, expecting lower tariffs and easier access to skilled talent. Local business networks, such as the India Competence Center, report growing interest in India as a diversified economic partner.
However, entrepreneurs note that European regulations remain a hurdle, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises. To meet rising demand, Techno Design plans to expand its India-based workforce and invest further in AI-driven fashion development, dw.com reports.
Meanwhile, as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visits India, both countries are exploring deeper trade, defense, and technology cooperation.
New Delhi seeks German investment and advanced technology to balance China and reduce reliance on Russia, while Berlin views the partnership as strategically important amid global uncertainties, even as differences over China and Russia remain.
