Jazeera Airways begins operations to reopened Amman civil airport

First Jazeera flight lands at Marka Airport, boosting Kuwait–Jordan travel links; strengthens tourism and trade ties

The first Jazeera Airways flight from Kuwait landed at Amman Civil Airport (Marka Airport) on Sunday, marking the airline’s inaugural service to the facility following its recent reopening.

Kuwait’s Ambassador to Jordan, H.E. Hamad Al-Marri, described the development as an important step in strengthening bilateral relations between Kuwait and Jordan, particularly in the commercial and tourism sectors.

Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) upon the aircraft’s arrival, he said the new route would serve a wide segment of Kuwaitis residing in Jordan as well as Jordanians living in Kuwait, while facilitating travel, trade exchange and closer communication between the two peoples.

Al-Marri expressed appreciation to the airport administration and operating companies for their efforts in enabling the launch of services, praising Jazeera Airways for being among the first carriers to operate to Amman Civil Airport.

He noted that the move is expected to positively impact tourism, trade and investment exchange between the two countries.

Jazeera Airways Chief Executive Officer Barathan Pasupathi said the airport — formerly known as Marka Airport — is witnessing a strong return of commercial activity after a period of suspension, with flights recording high occupancy rates.

He attributed the strong demand to the airport’s strategic location, approximately 12 kilometers from central Amman, offering travelers a fast and convenient option.

Pasupathi emphasized that the airport’s proximity to the capital is a key advantage that enhances its appeal and supports growing demand for both inbound and outbound travel.

During the visit, Ambassador Al-Marri, accompanied by officials from the Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission, toured the airport facilities and reviewed the equipment and services prepared to handle passengers.

Amman Civil Airport, located in the Marka district in eastern Amman, was Jordan’s first airport, inaugurated in 1963. Commercial operations resumed there earlier this year, restoring its role in serving regional travel.
