Souk Sharq waterfront landmark enters new development phase

. . . as the deadline for tenants and investors to vacate the premises ends

Visitors bade an emotional farewell to the historic Souk Sharq complex on Saturday as the deadline for tenants and investors to vacate the premises came to an end, closing a long chapter in the waterfront destination’s story — with hopes of a return in a renewed, modern form after redevelopment.

The Public-Private Partnership Authority (PPPA) has floated a tender for the comprehensive modernization, redevelopment, major maintenance, management and operation of the Souk Sharq waterfront project.

The initiative aims to transform the landmark site into an upgraded commercial and leisure destination, while preserving its strategic location and long-standing connection to residents and visitors, Al-Rai daily reports.

The redevelopment marks a new phase for one of Kuwait’s well-known coastal shopping and entertainment hubs.
