London retains Crown as World’s Most Powerful City for 14th year

. . . on Global Power City Index 2026; followed by Tokyo, New York City, Paris and Singapore as top five

London has once again been ranked as the most powerful city in the world, retaining the top position in the 2026 Global Power City Index for the 14th consecutive year.

The index evaluates cities based on their ability to attract talent, capital and businesses, using 72 indicators across six key categories: economy, research and development, cultural interaction, livability, environment and accessibility.

London secured first place overall due to its global dominance in culture, strong performance in economic activity and research and development, as well as its unmatched international connectivity. The city continues to serve as a major hub for finance, business and global influence, according to Bantr Business.

However, the report also highlighted mounting pressures on London’s livability and environmental sustainability, largely driven by rising rents and the increasing cost of living.

Tokyo ranked second in the index, followed by New York City in third place. Paris and Singapore completed the top five.

While power does not necessarily equate to perfection, the index underscores London’s continued ability to shape global trends and exert influence on the world stage.
