Nearly 40,000 deported in one year as Kuwait enforces zero-tolerance policy on lawbreakers and residency abuse

. . . deportations signal Kuwait’s hard line on public safety and residency violations

The government of Kuwait has deported 39,487 expatriates over the past year, in a sweeping law enforcement against threats to public interest and drug-related offences, including the use or possession of narcotics and psychotropic substances, to breaches of residency and other governing laws.

The source said these figures reflect a zero-tolerance security doctrine, underscoring the state’s determination to apply the law firmly and without exception.

The security authorities explained that all deportation decisions were issued only after the full completion of legal procedures, stressing that no measures were taken arbitrarily, reports Al-Anba daily.

The operations formed part of continuous, coordinated security campaigns carried out by multiple security departments in collaboration with concerned government bodies, aimed at tracking down violators and ensuring accountability for unlawful conduct.

The source said that some of the deported individuals were family sponsors. As a result, their dependents — whose residency permits were tied to them — also had to leave the country once the deportation orders were carried out. Each case was reviewed on its own merits, based on the family’s legal residency status.

Reaffirming the authorities’ stance, the source said security operations remain active and uncompromising, warning that any misuse of residency privileges or disregard for national laws will be met with decisive action.

At the same time, the source emphasized that Kuwait continues to welcome all residents who respect its legal framework and societal values, making clear that compliance — not leniency — is the cornerstone of stability and security.
