Commerce Ministry logs 702 market violations in November as inspection drive intensifies

Licensing breaches, digital complaints surge as MCI steps up oversight to enforce market discipline

Statistics from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry show the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Department during the month of November continued to carry out its intensive inspection campaigns, as part of the Ministry’s keenness to control markets and protect consumer rights.

According to the statistics, the total number of violations issued during the month reached 702, as part of the field inspection work that included multiple commercial and service activities.

These procedures come within the context of implementing the laws and regulations governing the markets.

The ministry added the number of licensing violations reached 120, reflecting the continued oversight to monitor the extent to which establishments comply with the approved legal requirements, and to address any violations that affect the safety of the market or consumer rights.

Regarding public interaction, the statistics indicated 189 direct complaints were recorded, in addition to 3,494 complaints and inquiries through electronic channels, including the Ministry’s electronic portal, the “WhatsApp” service, and the “Sahel” application, reflecting the increasing reliance of consumers on digital means of communication and reporting.

Sources told Al-Anba that these figures reflect the increased awareness among consumers of the importance of reporting violations, as well as the effectiveness of the electronic channels provided by the ministry to facilitate communication and expedite follow-up and processing procedures.

She noted that the administration completed 30 other transactions during the same period within the regulatory and supervisory framework, stressing that the inspection teams continue to perform their duties according to a flexible supervisory plan that responds to the market’s requirements and developments.

The sources confirmed that the Ministry of Trade and Industry is continuing to strengthen proactive oversight, intensify inspection tours, and develop mechanisms for receiving complaints, in order to contribute to achieving a fair business environment, ensuring consumer protection, and establishing the principle of transparency and discipline in the markets.
