MOH moves Pediatric Surgery Department to New Maternity Hospital

Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi issued a decision to transfer the Pediatric Surgery Department from Ibn Sina Hospital to the New Maternity Hospital, as part of efforts to establish an integrated and advanced care system for mothers and children.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health said the move comes in response to the rapid advancements in pediatric surgery and the growing need for modern facilities equipped with advanced medical devices and specialized surgical teams, ensuring timely and precise medical interventions, reports Al-Jarida daily.

The ministry explained that relocating the department will unify the treatment process under one roof, significantly reducing the need to transport newborns and children by ambulance, thereby minimizing risks and accelerating medical decision-making.

The ministry added that the decision reflects its commitment to aligning health infrastructure with the requirements of modern specialized care, while enhancing the overall experience of patients and their families in accordance with international best medical practices.

It noted that the step forms part of the ministry’s broader strategy to expand pediatric surgery services, ensure their geographical distribution, strengthen integration among health facilities, and improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery across the country.
