Kazakhstan showcases economic, investment, and tourism opportunities in Kuwait

The Times Kuwait Report

The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Kuwait hosted a media briefing titled ‘Kazakhstan: A Country of Opportunities,’ aimed at highlighting the Central Asian nation’s development priorities, investment potential, and tourism prospects to representatives of the Kuwaiti press.

The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Kuwait H.E. Yerzhan Yelekeyev briefed journalists on the key points of the address delivered by Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on September 8, 2025.

The address outlines Kazakhstan’s strategic vision, emphasizing digital transformation, adoption of artificial intelligence, modernization of public administration, sustainable economic growth, and enhanced support for the agro-industrial sector.

The briefing provided detailed insights into Kazakhstan’s economic landscape. With a GDP of approximately US $291 billion, Kazakhstan remains the largest economy in Central Asia, attracting over US $474 billion in foreign direct investment since independence — nearly half of all FDI in the region over the past decade.

Growth is driven by industry, transport, agriculture, and services, while the country offers a stable business environment recognized in global rankings.

Ambassador Yelekeyev highlighted Kazakhstan’s strategic transport and logistics potential. Positioned at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, the country provides access to markets of more than three billion consumers.

Investments in infrastructure and the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route have strengthened Kazakhstan’s role as a key Eurasian logistics hub.

Kazakhstan’s energy and natural resources sectors were also showcased. As the world’s largest producer and exporter of natural uranium, the country is simultaneously investing in renewable energy, including wind, solar, and hydropower. Agriculture remains a cornerstone of the economy, with Kazakhstan playing a pivotal role in global food security.

Tourism was a major focus of the briefing. In 2024, approximately 47,000 visitors from Gulf countries traveled to Kazakhstan, including around 4,000 from Kuwait — a fivefold increase in Kuwaiti tourists since 2022, reflecting growing regional interest in Kazakhstan as a travel destination.

Concluding the session, Ambassador Yelekeyev emphasized Kazakhstan’s view of Kuwait as a key partner and expressed readiness to strengthen bilateral cooperation across economy, investment, tourism, culture, and information exchange.
