Kuwait Fire Force urges desert campers to follow safety guidelines

61 camping fires last year highlight need for safety compliance -- KFF

The Kuwait Fire Force has called on desert campers to exercise extreme caution and adhere to preventive safety measures during the camping season to protect lives and property.

Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Gharib, Director of Public Relations and Media at the KFF, told the Kuwait News Agency that choosing safe camping sites is crucial. Visitors are advised to avoid flood channels, hazardous areas, and power lines, and to use only electrical lighting and heating devices designated for outdoor use.

He stressed that fires should only be lit in designated areas and must be completely extinguished before leaving the campsite or sleeping. Campers are warned not to use stoves inside tents or enclosed spaces, as carbon monoxide emissions can cause suffocation and death.

Brigadier Al-Gharib also emphasized the importance of supervising children, staying away from ground openings that may harbor insects, rodents, or poisonous reptiles, keeping camping areas clean, and maintaining a safe distance from dry grass.

He recalled that in the 2024 camping season, the fire department handled 61 fire incidents, most caused by non-compliance with safety guidelines.

To raise awareness, the Force has launched the “Camp Safely” campaign, which includes tours and educational activities in camping areas to promote a culture of safety and reduce potential risks. Brigadier Al-Gharib confirmed that firefighting teams are ready 24/7 and urged the public to immediately report emergencies via 112.
