Rainfall sweeps Kuwait; authorities mobilize to ensure public safety

Most parts of Kuwait witnessed steady rainfall from the early hours of Thursday, with amounts ranging from light to moderate and causing water accumulation in some unpaved areas inside residential areas.

The Ministry of Interior deployed security and traffic patrols across major roads to maintain order and manage traffic, which continued to flow smoothly despite the weather conditions.

The Ministry of Public Works say emergency teams remain active in the field, conducting inspection tours to ensure that no rainwater accumulations threaten public safety.

Ministry spokesperson Eng. Ahmed Al-Saleh stated that these teams will continue their rounds even after the weather stabilizes to check drainage outlets and verify their readiness for upcoming rainy conditions.

Al-Saleh urged motorists to exercise caution and comply with safety instructions issued by the Ministry of Interior.

Earlier, the Meteorological Department forecast scattered thunderstorms of varying intensity, accompanied by winds exceeding 45 km/h, with an improvement in weather conditions expected by Thursday evening.

In response to the unstable weather, the Ministry of Education announced the suspension of classes in all schools today.

Kuwait University also shifted Thursday’s lectures to online learning to ensure student safety.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense’s “Ghaith Duty” force held a coordination meeting to finalize field action plans, enhance communication with relevant state bodies, and raise readiness levels to ensure rapid response to reports and support authorities dealing with the rainy conditions.
