Kuwait renews $1 million pledge to UN Emergency Response Fund for 2026

Achieving the Fund’s annual target of raising US $1 billion has become an urgent priority -- Faisal Al-Enezi

Kuwait announced on Wednesday the renewal of its voluntary contribution of US $1 million to the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) for the coming year, reaffirming its steadfast humanitarian commitment and its belief in the Fund’s vital and timely role in crisis response.

The announcement was made by Minister Plenipotentiary Faisal Al-Enezi, Deputy Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations, during the high-level pledging event for CERF 2026 held at the UN headquarters.

Al-Enezi highlighted that the rapid spread of armed conflicts and the growing impact of climate-induced disasters have dramatically increased global humanitarian needs. He noted that over 300 million people worldwide required some form of assistance last year alone.

He underlined CERF’s importance as an exemplary model for fast, life-saving interventions, allowing the international community to respond swiftly to emergencies and sudden crises.

The Kuwaiti diplomat expressed deep appreciation to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher for their continued leadership in bolstering global humanitarian action and strengthening the UN’s capacity to deliver rapid, effective aid.

Al-Enezi stressed that achieving the Fund’s annual target of raising US $1 billion has become an urgent priority, particularly amid declining contributions to humanitarian appeals and rising global needs.

He concluded Kuwait’s statement by reaffirming the country’s unwavering support for international humanitarian efforts, emphasizing that Kuwait will remain a reliable, effective, and proactive partner in alleviating human suffering and upholding the values of solidarity and compassion.
