Police disciplinary cases to lapse after five years under amended law

A new decree has been issued amending Article (7) of Decree No. (124) of 1998, which regulates disciplinary penalties for members of the police force.

The amendment updates the rules governing the duration and expiration of disciplinary violations.

The revised article states that a disciplinary violation will lapse five years after it is committed, unless the period is interrupted by an investigation, accusation, or trial. In such cases, the countdown restarts from the date of the last procedure that halted the statute of limitations, reports Al-Rai daily.

If the misconduct also constitutes a criminal offense, the disciplinary violation will remain valid until the criminal case concludes.

In addition, any disciplinary penalty will lapse three years after the decision against the officer becomes final.

The amendment aims to clarify the framework for disciplinary accountability while aligning procedures with legal standards governing both administrative and criminal cases.
