KRCS calls for stronger volunteer culture to advance national humanitarian role

The Secretary-General of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), Fahad Al-Mandeel, emphasized the need to strengthen community participation and adopt policies that support volunteer work, describing it as a cornerstone of expanding humanitarian efforts and empowering volunteers in the country’s development journey.

Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency on the occasion of International Volunteer Day, observed annually on December 5, Al-Mandeel said the day serves as a message of gratitude to every volunteer and an opportunity for organizations to reaffirm their commitment to the values of giving that Kuwait is known for.

Al-Mandeel noted that the occasion marks an annual milestone to celebrate the efforts of male and female volunteers who have embodied the highest principles of compassion and service—reinforcing Kuwait’s long-standing leadership in humanitarian action.

He added that volunteers represent both the present and future of the nation, pointing out that the past year showcased exceptional contributions by Kuwaiti youth whose initiatives reflected determination, responsibility, and a deep sense of belonging to their community.

International Volunteer Day, he said, is both a moment of pride for what has been accomplished in a year of service and a starting point for a new chapter of humanitarian engagement, promising wider horizons for Kuwait’s role locally, regionally, and internationally.

Al-Mandeel highlighted the active presence of Kuwait Red Crescent volunteers across numerous initiatives inside and outside the country, stressing that volunteerism has become a universal value celebrated worldwide in recognition of its role in advancing sustainable development.

He concluded by calling for the reinforcement of a culture of volunteerism, increased awareness of the importance of humanitarian work, and support for initiatives that directly contribute to building a cohesive, resilient, and compassionate society.
